Abstract
The causes for the Flynn effect are analyzed in the context of the structural-dynamic theory of intelligence. The Flynn effect describes the phenomenon of the rise of cognitive abilities during the 20th century. To some extent this effect may be explained by the transition of the people's cognitive potential from the emotionally-figurative domain into the rational one. In order to test this assumption we conducted the empirical study of the literature for children written in between the 1900th and the 2016th. We developed methods to evaluate text cognitive complexity. Despite the growth of the intelligence test performance, the complexity of the children's fiction decreased over the 20th century.
