Abstract
The article is devoted to analysis of the place of representations of birth and death in subjective picture of life and their role in person's existential development. The importance of examination of birth and death not only as socio-cultural and existential events as well in person's history is stressed. The effects of experiencing and understanding of birth and death as elements of existential experience: effect of assignment of somebody else's experience of birth and death, effect of addition of standard life scenario and effect of recurrence in mentioning of birth and death events have been revealed based on the material of event-trigger biographies of respondents (N = 399). It has been revealed that respondents who specified the experience of births and losses of significant others in a number of significant life events are characterized by the greater maturity in biological age and in a number of personal characteristics, with integrity, positive self-appraisal, understanding of goals and subjectity of life position among them. Such functions of events of birth and death in existential person's development as: removal of life ambiguity, actualization of reflection and search for life meanings, formation of identity, creation of value and responsible attitude towards life, demarcation of existential spaces through establishing its boarders (time, emotional, subject, mental) are described.
