- Abstract
- Neurobiological, psychological, interpersonal mechanisms of disturbances in emotional regulation after psychological trauma are discussed. It is shown that emotion regulation plays big role in the development of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other disorders which are connected with trauma. Two main mechanisms of disturbances in emotion regulation after trauma are described. One of them is the dysregulation of emotion with hyperarousal and intrusions of traumatic experience. The second is the hyperregulation (dissociation of traumatic experience). Special attention is given to avoidance of posttraumatic emotions as the main disturbance of emotion regulation in PTSD. Mechanisms of posttraumatic processing of emotions in relationships with attachment figures are discussed.
