Abstract

The study was aimed to reveal characteristics of moral judgments of men and women from different age groups of Russian society. It was hypothesized that gender and age differences in experience of sociocultural interactions may be reflected in individual moral judgments. Participants (N = 327, age 16-69) evaluated moral permissibility of utilitarian pro-social actions that resulted in saving five people at the cost of another person's life. It has been shown that men in comparison with women evaluated such actions as more permissible, i.e. their judgments were more utilitarian. At the same time, utilitarian judgments decreased with the age of participants. These results are discussed within the framework of system-evolutionary approach in light of the problem of intuitive and rational components of moral judgment.
