Abstract
The research is devoted to the analysis of main approaches in application of psychology to the practice of defense tasks’ solution during the First World War. Brief excursus into birth and formation of military psychology as an independent scientific approach is given. History of formation and development of psychological testing under the conditions of world war in behalf of military science, battle and victory is investigated. The contribution of military psychologists to development of methodology of psychological selection of military personnel in the first third of XX century is described. The survey of methods and schemata for psychological support and rehabilitation of psycho-traumatized service members - ill, injured and somatic safe are given. Informational and psychological counteractions between States at war and differences in development of military psychology between the parties on the opposite sides of the first in the modern history global conflict are characterized. The ways and examples of military psychology application not only for defensive but also for offensive goals are described. General estimation of contribution of military psychology into course and result of many-sided military opposition is given.
