Abstract
Notion of executive functions - cognitive processes that regulate and control other cognitive functions is considered in the article. The analysis of history and modern state of domestic and foreign researches of the term is presented. Different models of executive functions are described, with such concepts as inhibitory control, control of attention, working memory, representation of a problem, choice of a strategy, planning, search and correction of mistakes being in the forefront. The problems of correlation between executive functions and emotional regulation along with the problems of continuity in development of executive functions are considered. Genetic and environmental contribution to executive functions is evaluated, comparison with “control of behavior” construct is done.
