Abstract
Aggravation of global environmental problems and the need to the comply with international environment and development agreements make the study of ecological consciousness a topic of priority for psychological research. Based on the methodology of systemic psychological description a new conceptual model of ecological consciousness is developed, its definition formulated and its functions and characteristics described. Such dimensions of the model as morphology and axiology are examined in detail. Environmental values are discussed and the three component structure of attitudes towards the environment is analyzed. Peculiar aspects of the Russian environmental policy are highlighted.
