- In this study, reliability and construct validity of the Barchards Emotional Intelligence (EI) scales were tested in a sample of 691 subjects aged 11 to 32 years. All sub-scales showed good internal consistencies. Confi rmatory factor analysis showed that the intended questionnaire structure fi ts the data well. Pattern of correlations with personality confi rmed appropriate convergent and divergent validity of this instrument. EI scores were higher in females than in males and in adults than in adolescents. During emotional facial expressions evaluating, high EI scorers showed higher sensitivity to emotional content of the stimuli.
