Abstract
Modern tendencies in psychological study of optimism are described; brief analysis of history of optimism / pessimism notions is given. Positive psychology, the one that is connected with scientifi c elaboration of person’s positive qualities and merits, is singled out as a new promissory tendency in developmentof world psychological science; its optimistic orientation is emphasized. Two main models of optimism developed in the network of positive psychology – dispositional and cognitive – attributive are compared. The problem of proportion of optimism and pessimism in person is discussed. The idea that notonly optimism but also pessimism have adaptive recourses that are determined by many different factors and by cultural factors as well is advanced.
