Abstract
The problem of perceiving and understanding academic and scientific texts is considered within the framework of the semiotic approach to the process of cognition. It was ascertained that the use of IT does not remove the necessity for the university lecturers to teach their students how to accurately perceive, understand scientific texts and produce new ones, as “the receptive approach” to the use of academic and scientific texts does not disappear spontaneously. A special mastery of the skills system for working with texts is required as a component of students’ general professional training.
