- Abstract
- The current study continues the series of studies of immigrants' image perception by Russians (n = 215). Cognitive load is shown to interact with stereotypicality character of immigrants' image when they are perceived by Russians. Cognitive load can worsen emotional assessment of counter-stereotypic immigrants without any influence on emotional assessment of stereotypic ones. This also means that counter-stereotypic images of immigrants can be assessed negatively when cognitive load is high (but not low). At the same time this interaction was not revealed when the level of immigrants' image stereotypicality character was assessed cognitively. The effect is shown to be steady in the context of personality traits, gender of participants of the study, and nationality of immigrant's image as well. Additionally, personality traits predict emotional assessments of immigrants
