- Abstract
- The author attempts to offer such an interpretation of the concept of motive which: (a) would be clear enough; (b) would help to relate it with other psychological concepts; (c) would include constructive aspects of its existing interpretations; (d) would embrace various objects considered as motives in the practical and theoretical psychology. With these requirements in mind, the author postulates the following essential properties of a motive: (1) it takes part in the causal determination of human action; (2) it is relatively stable; (3) it is a mental unit; (4) it is an intentional (relating to a definite object) unit, though may be unconscious. So, a motive as a relatively stable mental cause of actions. The author tries to overcome the shortcomings of this definition by relying on the concept of model, in its broadest interpretation.
