Abstract
There are considered the notions of essence and functions of individual consciousness, and author’s researches on development of consciousness in ontogenesis are shortly described. Unlike traditional approach to consciousness as a complex of mental functions (thinking, perception, memory) it is considered as an independent whole with its structure (system of realities) and function (attribution of existence). The notion of fundamental structures of consciousness (notion of mental object, space, time and causality) is advanced. In the set of empirical researches, the processes of originiation and development of these structures in children and adults were shown. Structure of everyday and non-everyday realities of consciousness is considered. The questions of cross-cultural differences in development of individual consciousness and its disorders are concerned.
