Abstract

Neuropsychological analysis of visual memory images was conducted in groups of 90 normals and 200 patients with local brain disturbances by means of two simple techniques applying visual memorizing of little graphic figures and a special picture. It was shown that constructive component of visual images is connected primarily with functional activity of occipital areas of the brain while the semantic component is connected wth frontal areas. Analysis of patients’ errors illustrated the specificity of hemispheria participation in visual memorizing. The data obtained show that deficiencies of visual memorizing caused by the right hemisphere disturbancy (namely, lack of stable structure, fast desintegration of semantic connections, the same intensity of correct and transformed reminiscences) can be considered as the cause of confabulatory phenomena.
