Abstract

It was found that the sensory memory span on numerals calculated by the method of partial report is equal to the short-term memory span calculated on the method of complete report. The sensory memory span (H) was determined by the size of alphabet of perceiced stimuli (A) and could be described by the equation elaborated on neurophysiological data: H = IgCAg(AH) (constant C is functionally correlated with the variety of neuron codes and long-term memory span; the product AH is the maximum size of subjective alphabet). The hypothesis about universal code of sensory and short-term memory was approved.
