Abstract
The article describes a set of means for expressing imperative and optative semantics in Old Russian and Old Russian texts. This set varies by genre. In some genres (in the oldest legal texts and Old Russian instructions), the presence or absence of performer's control over the action plays a key role in choosing a construction: with a subject controlling the situation, an infinitive is used, with an inanimate subject - an optative or other constructions. In some texts ("Domostroy", letters) this opposition is expressed less clearly due to the expansion of the infinitive or, on the contrary, optative construction, and in Church Slavonic texts it is not expressed at all.
