Abstract
Children with similar temperament/personality traits in similar conditions can develop in different ways due to complex interconnections between child's individual peculiarities and environment of development. The research has been devoted to the study of mediating role of Big Five personality traits in connection with destructive ways of upbringing and behavioral problems of children measured by questionnaire “Strengths and difficulties”. Reports of 602 parents of children aged 3 - 18 (M = 10.9, SD = 3.6) were used. Personality traits that exert mediating effect on correlation between parents' strategies of actions in response to bad behavior and behavioral problems of children have been revealed in the study. Deprivation of advantages as parents' strategy of upbringing predicts problems but when conscientiousness or agreeableness were added to corresponding regression models its contribution drops up to statistically insignificant values. Furthermore, conscientiousness exerts mediating effect on correlation between upbringing by means of shouts and swearing and behavioral problems. The results indicate that child's personality plays more expressed role in behavioral problems in comparison with environment in which the child lives.
