Abstract
Nowadays there is an urgent need for study of patriotism from the scientific point of view in spite of concept's ideological loading and abundance of everyday associations. Psychological aspect of patriotism is clearly expressed. The author shows that patriotism is multi-component concept and complex phenomenon, love for Homeland, readiness to sacrifice personal interests for the welfare of common ones, appropriate behavior, identification with the own country, its history and people being the main elements of its nucleus. Above-mentioned components of patriotism are ambiguous as well as their relationships with each other, thus complicating understanding of patriotism and its application to different situations that are analyzed in the article. The results of empiric studies of patriotism that illustrate the concept, demonstrate important qualities and specific character of patriotism of Russian people and make it possible to state a number of regularities of its manifestation are considered.
