Abstract
Working memory notion in modern cognitive and neuropsychological studies is analyzed. The attempt to describe memory impairments by the example of working memory subtests of Wechsler’s (WAIS-III, 1977) memory scale in patients with craniocerebral trauma is made. Qualitative analysis allowed revealing different types of mistakes in patients with localization of affections mainly in frontal and back parts of cerebrum. The falling out of one of the components of the process is the reason for different combinations of mistakes' types and detailed phenomena. The conclusion about illegal widening of working memory term is done. The notion of functional working system is proposed as an alternative.
