Abstract
Thesis that psychotherapeutic personality theories are created not only on the basis of psychotherapeutic practice is advanced in the article. The whole therapeutist’s life and peculiarities of his person are their prime cause. The analysis of E. Erikson’s original sociopsychological, stages theory of personality development through the whole life course creation process is the grounds for this thesis. Among its determinants are: his “happy-golucky” (Erikson) style of life, long wanderings along European “towns and regions” in search of his vocation; contacts with people of different social-historical strata; optimistic Weltanschauung – as the result of successful overcoming of private life hardships, crisises of self-determination. Comprehension of his own life and the results of professional activity allowed Erikson to introduce into psychological science new concepts: moratorium, identity, crisis of identity, generativity and to reveal central, stage personality characteristics.
