- Unlike the steady tradition of the independent investigation of category and thematic knowledge organization systems in human memory, the paper considers category structures of knowledge in the context of their thematic definition. A hypothesis is advanced that at least common semantic categories, i.e. “furniture”, “vehicle” etc, may gain their definitions in some permanent thematic context. Interview with 202 Ss revealed stable thematic dominants for 90 instances of 10 common semantic categories. The data obtained are characterized by rather high reliability and significantly specialize the results of the previous research on verification of categorical and thematic relations.
