Comparing the note on Callimachus’ poem Ibis in Suidas with Ovid’s poetical pamphlet Ibis, the author tries once more to precise the character of the quarrel between two great Alexandrians. With a reference to the information about the black ibis given by Strabo (XVII. 823) and Aristotle (Hist. anim. IX. 27(103)), she confirms the identification of ibis with Apollonius Rhodius and maintains that the ibis meant in Callimachus’ poem was the black one. How abusive such comparison could be, one can see from Ovid’s Ibis.
