- Abstract
- The article is devoted to the semantic reconstruction of the basic concepts of the institution of free and dependent people among the ancient Germans. On the basis of the Gothic, Anglo-Saxon and Old Icelandic languages, an attempt was made to reconstruct the primary meanings of the ancient Germanic roots * frijo - / * frija, *? Ewa - / *? Egna, * skalko-z and determine the social status of people designated by these roots.
