- Abstract
- The article discusses the meaning of the funeral ceremony, described in the Primary Chronicle under 1015, when the deseased Vladimir Svyatoslavich was carried out of the chamber through the hole in the wall (custom associated with the funeral of a sorcerer or a vampire). This custom also has an explanation in the historical context of the year 1015 – Vladimir’s conflict with his sons. Consequently, the danger coming from the deseased was to be overcome by means of the Christian burial of the Prince in the Tithe Church.
