- Abstract
- In summer 2008 the Moscow regional expedition undertook rescue excavations at Klushino 1 (Bronze Age?) site. The excavations revealed two workshops for primary treatment of fl int. Workshop 1 yielded 607 fi nds, workshop 2 - 80 fi nds. Most of the items show patina. The fl int used for splitting was mauve high-quality and grey, whereas the inhabitants of the Bronze Age site used mainly low-quality moraine fl int. The splitting produced large wide blades, the technique employed at the site is well-known from Zaraisk and Tregubovo 2 materials. The amount of tools in the Upper Paleolithic assemblage, retouched blades included, does not exceed 2%. The fi nds from Klushino, dating to the later Upper Paleolithic and with probable Gravettian cultural basis, allow to signifi cantly expand our notions about Gravettian chronology and geography.
