Abstract
The article is the first of two presenting the results of an empirical study conducted in 80 Russian business organizations in 14 sectors of the economy, in 8 Federal districts of the Russian Federation. Both articles are United by a single theoretical and methodological approach to the scientific analysis of business as a socio-cultural phenomenon. The authors substantiate the understanding of the social organization of business as broader in comparison with the popular term “organizational culture”. Emphasis is placed on the need for breeding in an empirical study "mental” and "practical" aspects of the organization's functioning. The author substantiates the identification of three key parameters for studying the social organization of a firm. The article presents an empirical analysis of the first of three parameters – the degree of development of achievement (meritocratic) principles of social interaction in Russian business.
